| Facebook wants to take charge of the Internet |
|
You've most probably heard about the new Facebook plan to rule the world (if not, check the link). Now we're in a special kind of business, how is this move going to affect SEO? Well, probably not that much. We're already seeing an increased importance given to social networks in rankings, and we've already seen the move Google did on introducing the personalized search as default, and the forcing of Google Buzz as a default app for gmail users. So the war is on now, the battle for who knows more about the users has started. As both Google's and Zuckerberg's moves are concentrating towards the rapid growth in quantity and quality of data from their users, we'll see more and more targeted campaigns, more and more tailored ads to certain groups. So Internet Marketing will benefit from more tools, and SEO specialists will have to work a bit harder to offer true alternatives through organic results for user's queries. Short term, people will see more things they like or are interested in. Long term, most likely will see a growth in the feeling of mistrust given to these ads, as people have a natural tendency to question advertisements. Also, we're going to see an increase in the quality of organic SERP's, because of the need websites will feel to improve their organic standings. Internet users trust more in organic results because they have the sense that they've achieved them, different queries lead to different results, which allow them to compare content from all kinds of websites, when the advertisements only offer a limited amount of results. |
