Some of you may have noticed a slightly different look and feel about Google search. If not yet, don’t worry, you’ll probably be seeing it in action pretty soon. They've prepared a little show for you: So they've improved things a little. Trouble is... its nothing new. The only real rival in existence at the moment, Bing, had similar features ever since. Here's a little light show from them as well: So what does that tells us? SEO wise, of course. First thing is not much has changed. But the position in SERP's will have a bigger impact on first page dwellers, as most of the options Google was placing inside the SERP's will move to the right. So.. more headroom, probably a fiercer battle for CTR's. Second thing is a bit more important. Google starts to loose the ability to shape the search engine wars. As it's global market share is decreasing rapidly and steadily, Bing tends to eat up all of it. And with the announced exit of Yahoo from this market and use of Bing on the Yahoo portal as default Search Engine, we're looking at a full on war, with Google on the losing side this time. While Microsoft were thought a hard lesson in the antitrust trials, and with a somewhat renewed respect for the consumer's rights and wishes, Google seems uninterested in such details, too preoccupied to rule the world, and too busy to listen to it. So, interesting times await us... |
