Different pages are displayed to Search Engine Spiders and human users, with the purpose of indexing a different content than the human user will see.  Although at times it can be used to deliver personalized content for users, unless clearly marked and done with the Search Engine’s cooperation will be viewed as a Black Hat technique, resulting in banning of incriminated website until the issue is resolved.
